The Gavi mission attended the official launch of the introduction of a second malaria vaccine in sub-Saharan Africa on Monday, 15 July.
Since Gavi has facilitated the immunisation of over 1 billion children β over half of the global birth cohort. The Gavi model is country led β once countries become economically able to transition out of Gavi support, they fund their immunisation programmes independently.
Since its inception in , Gavi has helped to immunise a whole generation β over 1 billion children β and prevented more than Gavi also plays a key role in improving global health security by supporting health systems as well as funding global stockpiles for Ebola, cholera, meningococcal and yellow fever vaccines. After two decades of progress, Gavi is now focused on protecting the next generation, above all the zero-dose children who have not received even a single vaccine shot.
The Vaccine Alliance employs innovative finance and the latest technology β from drones to biometrics β to save lives, prevent outbreaks before they can spread and help countries on the road to self-sufficiency.
